Energy Saving - by Ms. Stanley,s 4th. class

By saving energy we can save money and help to prevent climate change.
Our class decided to examine how we waste energy and how we can save energy both at home and at school.

This is what we learned:

  • Bicycles rely on human energy to carry a person from one place to another
  • Sailing boats rely on the wind to carry sailors from one port to another
  • The moon supplies energy too. Twice a day the moon causes the tide to go in and out.

This is known as tidal energy.

  • In Iceland people use the heat from volcanoes to heat water. The water is then used to fill outdoor swimming pools and to make electricity.

How we waste energy

Leaving the lights on when you are not in the room

Turning on the heat on a hot day

Leaving televisions on standby

Leaving the water heating for too long

Leaving the tap running when you wash your teeth

Leaving the door open when you are not in the room

How can we work together to save energy?

  • Use CFL light bulbs.
  • Have a shower instead of a bath.
  • Cover your water heater with an energy saving jacket.
  • Turn off your T.V. and other household appliances when you are not using them.
  • Close all doors behind you.
  • Use a timer for outside lights.
  • Turn off lights when leaving a room.
  • Do not leave phone charger plugged in.
  • Tuck curtains behind the radiator to keep in the heat.
  • Only put your dishwasher on when it is full.

How will you save energy in travelling?
How will you save electricity at home?
How will you save energy needed for heating?
How will you save water?
How will you find out where your food comes from?
