The Curious Minds Award
The goal of the Curious Minds Awards is to help establish schools as a leading educators in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), creating a forward-focussed, learning environment for both teacher and student. Through the Curious Minds programme, we have supplied the tools and opportunities to empower children to develop a deep understanding and enthusiasm in STEM and to allow teachers to spark fun and curiosity both inside and outside the classroom.
Through the Curious Minds Awards we have taken part in a myriad of different STEM projects. We understand in St. Oliver Plunkett NS that in today’s world it is very important for children to have at least a basic understanding of STEM and hopefully inspire them to pursue STEM related jobs in the future. We have explored many different areas in the STEM curriculum and children throughout the school have participated in these experiments and projects. Not only did the children investigate different areas of STEM education they also were given opportunities to present their work to their classmates and even to other classes.
Below you can see some of the activities we have taken part in.

Here is a video of a Bottle Rocket Launch that we did during Space Week.

This has been a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore many areas of STEM in fun and engaging ways.
